College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The CLEP assesses your knowledge of a subject and earns college credits without taking a college course.

About the Exam:

The CLEP offers 34 exams of introductory level college course materials. The credit-by-examination program is accepted at over 2,900 colleges. Students with a passing score can earn college credits, save money and get your degree faster!

This exam is administered online and is available by appointment at the testing center year-round.

Earn credits:

  • A score of 57 is required to receive credit for a CLEP exam at Missouri S&T.
  • Missouri S&T only allows CLEP exams to be completed once. Regardless of the College Board retake policy.
  • Any student having 90 semester hours or more of acceptable credit is no longer eligible for CLEP exam credit.

Cost:

  • The CLEP exam ticket's current fees are available at College Board
  • Testing Center proctor fee for each appointment is $65.  Fee is payable by exact cash, check, or online payment at the time of the appointment. 

Total cost for CLEP exam is approximately $165 vs average cost per course $1,300 (3 credit hours)

On Test Day

  • A valid governmental ID (driver's license, passport, etc.)
  • Printed copy of your CLEP ticket
  • Locked storage is available on location for personal items not allowed in the testing room
